Department of Mathematics

The department of Mathematics is among the first few departments introduced in the college. The department besides teaching the regular Non Medical courses offers its services for teaching the Mathematics portion of the syllabus for students of other streams like B.C.A / B. Com Hons / Economics Hons,B Sc I.T / NANO Sciences? P. G chemistry. The department has an in-house student oriented library and students are always encouraged to make use of the available books. We in the department of Mathematics try our level best to complete the syllabus to the best satisfaction of the students. The department at present has three permanant faculty members and sometimes also hire the services of contractual teachers for smooth functioning of the department.

To empower students with sound knowledge and investigate new methodologies for future applications. The Department aims to be a center of excellence in Mathematics and computing.

• To prepare our undergraduate students to develop the attitude and ability to apply mathematical methods and ideas in a wide variety of careers.
• To impart the knowledge of mathematical science with precision and motivate the students to pursue P.G and Research in Mathematics.

Strength
• Good library facility
• Well qualified teachers
• Good performance of students in university exams
• Publications in reputed international/national journals
Weaknesses
• Slow learners struggle hard to get through the programme.
• Time constraint in covering the syllabus.
• Lack of software related lab work.
Opportunities
• Autonomous status provide the opportunity to frame the syllabi
• Possibility of starting P. G course in future.
• Collaboration with major institutes in the region.
Threats
• Lack of well-defined career paths
• Some other job oriented courses.
• Start of integrated course.

BACHLOR OF ARTS/SCIENCE (GENERAL): MATHEMATICS

Individuals who have completed a degree in Mathematics should be equipped to
• find employment utilizing their mathematical knowledge.
• use their mathematical knowledge to solve problems.
• undertake further studies related to Mathematics.
Based on these over-arching objectives, a set of program outcomes has been adopted which describes the skill, knowledge, attitudes, values and behaviors that students should be able to demonstrate by the time they complete the program. Specially, students completing a mathematics degree should
• gain knowledge in foundational areas of mathematics.
• develop mathematical thinking.
• apply mathematical knowledge
• be able to solve mathematical problems using technology.
