Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2017 after getting the nod from the Department of Higher Education, J&K and consequently approval from the Governing Board of Islamia College of Science & Commerce. The basic objective of introduction of Bachelor of Information Technology is to inculcate the skill of technical implementation & maintenance of software’s in addition to basis software development skills.
Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications. IT is the area of managing technology and spans wide variety of areas that include but are not limited to things such as processes, computer software, information systems, computer hardware, programming languages, and data constructs. In short, anything that renders data, information or perceived knowledge in any visual format whatsoever, via any multimedia distribution mechanism, is considered part of the domain space known as Information Technology (IT). IT professionals perform a variety of functions (IT Disciplines/Competencies) that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data management, networking, Software Design and Development, computer hardware as well as management and administration of entire IT systems. Information technology is starting to spread further and more integration of other technologies such as the use of cell phones, televisions, automobiles, and more, which is increasing the demand for such jobs.

Bachelors in Information Technology
Eligibility: Having Secured 50% in Open category or 45% in reserved category with Mathematics at 10+2 Level
Intake: 30 (with 3% of payment seats)

The main objectives of BSC (IT) are to
a. Introduce students to relevant and contemporary information technology practices.
b. Foster the student’s capacity for critical thinking, analysis & reflection through the formation and testing of theoretical and practical propositions in real-life like projects and trainings.
c. Develop the student’s technical and aesthetic abilities so that ideas can be confidently expressed.
d. Enhance the student’s prospects for a career in fields such as software development, networking, web applications, database management and academic positions.
